Celebrating Women's Football

A EURO PRIDE HOUSE will take place in Utrecht during the UEFA Women's Euro to raise awareness on homophobia and discrimination in football and enhance the acceptance of women in football.

The UEFA European Women's Championship will be held in the Netherlands during the summer of 2017, and the “Queering Football” project has requested the European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation organise a Euro Pride House in Utrecht.

Programme and Venue

The Bodytalk Bar will to be the focal point for the championships and have provided space for activities that will take place over the 2 weeks of the tournament to coincide with the games being played in Utrecht. The space will be used for informal discussions, meetings and will show part of the “Against The Rules” exhibition, and particularly the two new panels that were created especially for the Queering Football Project. The opening of the Euro Pride House will take place on the afternoon of the 16th July at 5pm at the Bodytalk bar, where Karin Blankenstein, founder of the John Blankenstein Foundation will open the Euro Pride House.

Every time there is a game in Utrecht [Sun 16th 18:00/ Wed 19th 20:45/ Sat 22nd 20:45/Tues 25th July], the basement will be open so that the matches can be watched and the exhibition could be shown. There will be discussions prior to the matches on women in football, and already the local women’s football team Zwaluwen Utrecht will be on hand to join the conversation.

All these activities are part of the project “Queering Football TACKLING HOMOPHOBIA AND PROMOTING ANTI-DISCRIMINATION AROUND MAJOR SPORT EVENTS” co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Sports program and coordinated by fairplay-VIDC, an anti-discrimination initiative based in Vienna. Hope to see you there!
