fairplay initiative is coordinating these activities. On this occasion, fairplay gets support from the Austrian Ministry of Sports, the European Commission, UEFA and the FARE Office in London. The Austrian national football league (ÖFBL) and the Austrian Football Federation (ÖFB) are cooperation partners. These activities are also part of the European projects #QueeringFootball and #OutSport.
Since 2001, the Europe-wide FARE Action Weeks have been annually organised in October. The action started with fangroups, with the aim to promote a culture of football free from discrimination. Nowadays, all stakeholders in the field of football became active for the fight against discrimination.
Lately, also in Austria, racist incidents became on and around the football pitch became more frequent. Therefore, the Action Weeks from the 5th-19th October, will take place under the motto “I am against racism”. FC Sans Papiers Innsbruck

1st – 20th October 2017 – Innsbruck/ Tirol
In the West of Austria, the Action Weeks have been already started on the 1st of October. The match between FC Sans Papiers and FC Wacker Innsbruck included a strong statement against racism. A banner with “Football against Racism” has been carried by the players. On the 7th of October, a big media campaign with all clubs will follow. For two days, the banner “No Place for Discrimination” will be placed at the city hall of Innsbruck. During this period, the captain of all teams will wear a captain’s arm band with rainbow colours and the children, who accompany the players on the pitch, will wear t-shirt with the same slogan. The highlight will be the anti-racism action in the stadium during the game between FC Wacker Innsbruck and SV Guntamatic Ried. This game will take place on the 20th of October at the Tivoli Stadium, Innsbruck and a banner with “Innsbruck football clubs against racism” will be shown.
Verein für Parksportkultur
1st – 14th October – Vienna
Every Saturday, „Verein für Parksportkultur“ is organising sports activities at the sports facilities in the park Augarten in the 2nd district of Vienna. This should foster the participatory use of existing sport infrastructures. The basic idea is the inclusion of everyone in sport activities. For example, refugees have been invited regularly to attend the activities. During the FARE Action Weeks, the 7th and 8th round of the “Wild League” will take place at the Schlosswiese. “Wild League” is an open league for everyone who loves football and a fair match, independently of his or her religion, gender or sexual orientation. Besides football, a variety of other sports are offered by “Verein für Parksportkultur”. That includes volleyball, badminton, frisbee or slackline. The end of the season will be marked with a big event. Food and refreshments will be provided by “Welcome to our kitchen”, an inclusion initiative for people with and without migration background.

The fan group “Austria Fans gegen Rechts” aims to fight against right-wing extremism in football. Therefore, they will produce stickers with the same slogan and distribute them during the Action Weeks.

On 7th October, during the game against SKV Altenmarkt II,the 2nd league team FC Altera Porta will enter their field with a banner “no place for discrimination”. In addition, all 3 female teams and the junior teams will take part in the testimonial campaign “I am against discrimination”. Furthermore, all 3 female teams will wear captains arm bands with a statement against discrimination and racism.

The clubs of 1st women football league will participate with different activities in the Action Weeks on the 7th and 8th of October (6th round). Prejudices and stereotypes of women and women football are still very common.
The focus of these activities will be, due to the polical situation, the fight against racism. All players will say "I am against racism". Also some teams will take a stand against homophobia and sexism im Women's football.

Also the video of the Erasmus+ project "Outsport – Innovative and educational approaches to prevent violence and tackle discrimination in sport based on sexual orientation and gender identity” will be shown at two matches to raise awareness on homophobia and promote the content and aims of this European wide project where fairplay is project partner.
Cup der guten Hoffnung

This time, the autumn session of „Cup der guten Hoffnung“ will be hold during the FARE Action Weeks. For the first time, the venue will be the youth sport facility at Johann-Hofmann-Platz, located in the 12th district of Vienna. The tournament enjoys already some kind of tradition and will be hosted for adults by the organisation Viennese Aid to Homeless (Wiener Wohnungslosenhilfe) and related social institutions. This session will include teams from Augustin, der Gruft, aXXept, Login and neunerhaus. What is new this year is that women teams from Login and FC Panthers will participate in the tournament. The “Cup der Guten Hoffnung” has been established in 2013 as follow-up project of the Viennese Homeless Tournament. Through the new tournament, the target group has been extended. The Cup aims to unite players from different social institutions in Vienna. The focus of the day is diversity, all people regardless their nationality or milieu are warmly welcomed.

The Viennese primary school will organise a „Refugee Welcome“ tournament for children, where other elementary schools will be invited. Schools with a high percentage of pupils with migration background and refugees will be the target group. Boys and girls will play together through the tournament.

„Kicken ohne Grenzen“, a football project, has been established in 2015. It aims to bring together young refugees and to offer them free and regular football training, participation in tournaments and enhances access to football related educational offers. One focus area is empowerment of young female refugees. It’s evident that participation in sports significantly increases their self-confidence and minimizes the risk of gender-based violence. During the 18th FARE Action Weeks, the female “Kicken ohne Grenzen” Team will organise a friendly game against another female team with a majority of players with migration background. The slogan of the game will be #ClaimThePitch. A social media campaign on facebook and the production of t-shirts with the same slogan are planned.

Few days after the World Cup qualifying game between Austria and Serbia, Street Work Wieden will organise a reflection workshop focused on the topic nationalism.

Concerning the topic homophobia, the youth center „5er Haus“ in cooperation with fairplay will organise a „Queerplay“ Workshop. This activity is part of the Erasmus+ project Queering Football.

As in recent years also this year „FreundInnen der Friedhofstribüne“ will take part in the FARE Action Weeks. The main aim besides supporting the Wiener Sport-Club is to foster a respectful and tolerant interaction with each other. In football, there is no space for homophobia, sexism and any other form of discrimination. Also the football club itself represents this idea and supports the activities of the fan group during the Action Weeks. On the 13th of October, during the game of WSC vs. Rapid Wien II, the fan group will hang up banners and distribute giveaways. Additionally, through a Fanzine, focused on female players and fans, the attention will be drawn to the important role of women in the context of the Wiener Sport-Club.

NAFA Academy

This year in the context of the FARE Action Weeks, the NAFA-Academy will organise a film presentation of „Afrika 11“ at Afri Point. The film will be followed by a discussion with players from “Sans Papiers – die Bunten”, who will be asked to share their own experience regarding integration.- Beforehand, NAFA will promote their event on social media channels, on their homepage, in print media and with leaflets.
