In the framework of the European Union funded project Queering Football all five project partners support activities and initiatives at the base in their engagement against homophobia in football. Find here a list of these activities.
Let’s tackle homophobia ...
... in Austria
In Austria a big fan football tournament of Footballfans versus Homophobia took place in January as a pre-launch of the Football v. Homophobia Month of Action. A report of the event and a lot of great fotos you can find on facebook.
The womens’s league team of Dynama Donau is going to design tricots with messages against homophobia. They will present the new tricots at their first league match in March together with an action day against homophobia and will wear it at all seasons‘ matches.
… in Macedonia
Together with the Maceonian initiative and online portal queer.mk the EGLSF starts a public news campaign on homophobia in football. The website queer.mk will feature daily reports and articles to inform the readers about best practice examples how to tackle discrimination around the world. In February sport will be the main focus of the news portal for queers in Macedonia.
… in Slovenia
The journalists for social change organise a radio debate about homophobia in football in Slovenia. The specific Slovenian situation after the referendum, where the majority vote against same sex marriage, will be reflected.
DIH, the Slovenian LGBTIQ-initiative, is going to host a round table with representatives of the city of Ljubljana, the football association, LGBT sportclubs, NGOS and researchers.
The faninitiative ballspiel.vereint!, a cooperation of fans, supporters and ultras of Borussia Dortmund, have already taken a stand against homophobia during the German cup match versus Hertha BSC. They made a choreography and distributed material to raise awareness on homophobia in the stadium. The initiative is aiming at installing an inclusive football culture, where everyone is welcome, no matter which gender, sexual orientation or origin they have.
… in The Netherlands
The female football team of Zwaluwen Utrecht organises a football tournament and a discussion. The diversity of female football player will be celebrated, t-shirts against homophobia will be distributed and the activities are acompagnied by a fotographer and a film maker.
… in Great Britain
On 19 March, Yorkshires only LGBT football team, the Yorkshire Terriers F.C, is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a tournament. LGBT teams from all across Great Britain are invited.
… in France
Paris Arc en Ciel, a LGBT footballclub situated in Paris, is also going to host a tournament where LGBT, their allies, and French league teams will play together to overcome barrieres and prejudices. Also a transgender-team of Acceptess-T will take part.
Everybody is invited to get active and contribute tot he Football v. Homophobia Month of Action and to take a stand against discrimination.
